Visit us and share our beautiful property. The yurt is unique, comfortable and beautifully decorated in Mongolian style. We charge $170 per night. The yurt accommodates two comfortably. This is premium camping accommodation in the King Valley. Absolutely spectacular views that you won't find anywhere else and possibly one of the best views in Australia. Walk along the scenic mountain ridge and return to a glass of locally made champagne and enjoy the sounds of silence. Try the outside bath and run around in the nude if you like no one to see you here. Quite an isolated location with the nearest supermarket 40kms away so come prepared.
Yurt is warm in winter and cool in summer due to the wood heater and the pure wool 5cm thick felt lining. Nothing better than sitting by the fire on top of a mountain overlooking the beautifiul King Valley in the winter looking down on the low lying clouds.
This is a video from the top of our hill where the yurt is.
Thank you Gordon Carmichael for putting it together for us.
Lots more availability now that we have another two yurts all beautiful and secluded. So it is worth giving us a call even if the Air bnb calendar says we are full.
About us
Location
Nestled in the heart of the beautiful King Valley. The Yurt Alpine Retreat is perfectly located for the weekend break or a leisurely mid-week holiday. You will experience some of the best 360 degree views in Australia right here. The yurt is situated in the Victorian High country on a 345 hectare working cattle farm, It adjoins natural bushland. Approximately 200kms from Melbourne and the nearest towns are Benalla and Wangaratta which are 40kms away so you will need to buy your food there. There is a small general store and a pub 15mins drive away.
You are only 20mins. drive to the King Valley wineries, you can also visit Milawa Cheese factory or visit Paradise Falls, Powers Lookout or Lake William Hovell. The town of Glenrowan is nearby where you can find out all about Ned Kelly, you can also visit the Stringy Bark Creek area which was where Ned shot two police officers. You can go paragliding at Mt Buffalo which is one and a half hours drive or have dinner hanging over the edge of Mt. Buffalo if that is what you would like to do. You need to book these activities through Bright Adventures.

Our Property
After driving along a steep dirt track through natural bushland teeming with kangaroos, wombats, rabbits and deer, you will burst onto a plateau with amazing 360 degree views of the King and Myrrhee valleys. There are fantastic scenic walks along the ridge or through the natural bushland. If your lucky you might see a white deer, some black cockatoos or the resident eagle hovering overhead, or you might just like to enjoy the "sounds of silence" while sipping on some local wines.
Lots of wineries in the King Valley, also there is a cheese factory at Milawa and an olive shop. At night enjoy a yarn around the campfire or perhaps go for a night drive and see some of the local fauna but please no shooting we love our animals here. You might like to visit Paradise Falls and Powers Lookout as well or follow the Ned Kelly trail in Glenrowan. There is also Lake William Hovell 20 mins drive away if you want to do some fishing or the King River if you want to have a swim or do some tubing.
Due to our property being in a high fire danger area situated next to natural bushland, we cannot operate on Extreme, Code Red or Days of Total Fire ban, so sometimes we have to cancel bookings at short notice, we apologise in advance for this but your safety is paramount to us and your payment will be fully refunded.
